2007 KING COUNTY CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIRE

1.  Building public awareness:  What priority do you assign to King County 's efforts to educate community residents about the importance of historic preservation?

□ Medium

Statement:  Work for everyone is my higher priority, and work on historic preservation is often a desirable form of work. I would like to preserve and get maximum use out of old buildings and other old items. Unfortunately, King County Government has not been leading by example.

2.  Revitalizing communities:  What priority do you give to assuring that King County has the financial resources required to play a significant role in revitalizing historic communities?

  □ Medium

Statement:  With work for everyone as my high priority, the financial resources in King County would be improved, and it would become easier to preserve those old buildings and other old objects that are worth preserving. A wealthier King County can better afford historic preservation than a King County filled with the current poverty.

3.  Preserving designated City landmarks:  What priority do you give to sustaining King County 's designated landmarks and saving other landmark-eligible historic places as properties that enable residents to see history and learn from it?

  □ Medium

Statement: I voted to keep the Kingdom, and I wanted us to keep and use other old buildings which government destroyed. Government is often the big destroyer of that which is historic.

4.  Protecting Seattle 's heritage in court:  What priority do you assign to the work of the County legal system regarding the preservation of designated County landmarks and landmark-eligible properties?

□ Medium

Statement: Many government buildings have been destroyed which should have been kept in use. The legal system did not protect the people’s property from the destructive stewards of that property.

5.  Advocacy for historic homeowners:  How do you rate King County 's efforts to influence public policy and public perceptions around the benefits of preserving significant historic residences?

□ Medium

Statement: King County has shown a willingness to destroy its own historic government buildings. We should be careful when thinking of unleashing this destructive force upon the private sector. 6.  Influencing public policy:  What priority do you place on King County 's work to foster preservation-friendly policies and funding?

□ Medium

Statement: King County should lead by example and stop its destruction of the people’s property.  Please google my name: goodspaceguy to learn more about my proposed solutions.

7.  Supporting historic preservation:  What priority do you assign to sustaining and funding King County 's Historic Preservation Program in the Office of Business Relations and Economic Development?

□ Medium

Statement: I am wondering if this could be a synergy with my film-making program in King County?

8.  Funding for preservation projects:  What priority do you assign to the provision of grants and revolving loans for King County 's private historic preservation projects?

□ Low

Statement: It would be better to implement my program of creating full employment in King County. If we were to do so, I believe the resulting healthy economic private sector would be able to do more preserving of that which is privately owned, than if we allow the current poverty to continue. Also, I would like the government to buy and use some of the historic buildings.
