Statement:
As King County continues to plan in an organized and thoughtful way for increased density which will require decisions on redevelopment, policymakers must be keenly aware of our historic past and those who helped shape what we are today. What we are today will be the historic past for future generations, and it is vitally important to develop and retain a sense of place that recognizes our cultural and historic legacy.
My keen policy interests rest with the well being of King County's land use and financial resources. As longstanding member, chair and vice chair of our council's growth management and budget committees, I have advocated for historic and cultural friendly commitments from King County government.
There is more to be done to positively co-exist with development. I look forward to working through the 2008 Comprehensive Plan with Historic Seattle (King County) to refine a vision for the future that respectfully includes the past and to find opportunities to leverage resources to make preservation a reality.
