Seattle School District

Director District 2

2007 SEATTLE SCHOOL DISTRICT CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIRE

1.  Building public awareness:  What priority do you assign to the Seattle School District's efforts to educate community residents about the importance of historic preservation?

□ High Priority              X Medium         □ Low              □ No opinion

Statement:  I think it is more important for the District to focus on providing a high-quality education to all of its students across the entire community.  The District can find ways to partner with groups like Historic Seattle to educate the public, but shouldn't take that effort on itself.

2.  Preserving designated City landmarks:  What priority do you give to sustaining the Seattle School District's designated landmarks and saving other landmark-eligible historic places as properties that enable residents to see history and learn from it?

X High Priority              □ Medium         □ Low              □ No opinion

Statement:  It's difficult to really understand history just from a textbook.  We should take care to preserve any opportunity to keep physical manifestations of our history intact so that students can experience them firsthand.

3.  Influencing public policy:  What priority do you place on the Seattle School District's work to foster preservation-friendly policies and funding?

□ High Priority              X Medium         □ Low              □ No opinion

Statement: This priority would fall below my priority of the District's work to foster education-friendly policies and funding.
