Event: Joan Hockaday reads from “Greenscapes: Olmsted’s Pacific Northwest”
Description: "Greenscapes: Olmsted's Pacific Northwest" by Joan Hockaday renders a regional portrayal of landscape architect John Charles Olmsted. In the early 1900's, the meticulous, visionary protégé brought the pastoral aesthetic of his famous stepfather, Frederick Law Olmsted, to premier park systems throughout the Pacific Northwest--designing verdant havens that still refresh urban souls in Portland, Seattle, and Spokane.

Join us at the White River Valley Museum for our three-part series on heirloom conservation. Our Curator of Collections, Alison Tisue, will lead discussions and demonstrations on caring for your family’s most precious objects. Topics include textiles, photographs, and metals/silver. Basic preservation materials will be provided as well as handouts with tips and instructions from the expert!

Description: The Eastside Heritage Center welcomes Eric Erickson, for an interactive and interpretive slide show featuring the logging and lumber businesses in King County. Included will be pictures of big trees, logging methods and tools, old time logging equipment, logging railroads, logging trucks, saw & shingle mills all within King County with emphasis on Seattle and the Eastside.

Event: When Sound Takes the Stage
Description: The architecture of the performance hall, its size, shape and texture, creates the musical environment. Using the historic Moore Theatre as their performance hall, Dan Bruck, President, BRC Acoustics, and Michael Yantis, Principal of Acoustical Design, Sparling, will share their expertise on creating the optimum acoustical design and how it impacts the audience. Jazz Underground will help demonstrate acoustical design and perform. Gary Fuller, Seattle Architecture Foundation volunteer tour guide, will open the program with an overview of the Moore Theatre’s architecture. This is an approved AIA/CES Learning Unit Presentation.
