Downtown Survey
Downtown Historic Resources Survey and Inventory
Excellence in Preservation Planning Award
Project Team: City of Seattle Historic Preservation Program, Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle Landmarks Preservation Board, Kathryn Krafft, Karin Link, and Mimi Sheridan

As a component of the City's downtown planning efforts, the Department of Neighborhoods Historic Preservation Program surveyed and inventoried 376 potentially historic properties in downtown Seattle in 2007. The information provided by the survey and inventory has been very valuable to property owners and developers as a proactive planning tool for the preservation of historic buildings, adaptive reuse of historic buildings, and new development.
Of the buildings surveyed, thirty-seven properties were identified as eligible for nomination as Seattle landmarks, sixteen of which are now designated Seattle landmarks. An additional fifty-six buildings were also identified for landmark nomination consideration by the Board in the future.
The 2010 Excellence in Preservation Planning award recognized the City of Seattle’s on-going efforts to protect downtown’s historic resources while preparing for future change and growth.
