Preservation Easements

Historic Seattle’s Preservation Easement Program

Historic Seattle is directly involved in the permanent protection of Seattle’s historic places through our Preservation Easement program. Preservation easements are the voluntary donation of all or part of a historic place to a nonprofit or government entity. Although tax benefits are available to certain types of properties, many owners enroll in preservation easement programs solely to ensure the protection of their significant place in perpetuity. To date, Historic Seattle has accepted over a dozen preservation easements on a variety of Seattle buildings:

Fourteenth Avenue West Houses

Twenty-Third Avenue Houses

Ankeny/Gowey House

Belmont/Boylston Houses

Fire Station #18

Fire Station #25

Main Street School

Morrison Hotel

Pioneer Houses

Satterlee House

Stimson-Green Mansion

Ward House

For more information on the basics of preservation easements, go to the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s “Easements Resources” page of its website.

If you are interested in donating an easement on your property, contact Kji Kelly, Director of Property and Asset Management at kjik@historicseattle.org.
