Saved Buildings
The expansive collection of historic places that define Seattle’s neighborhoods, main streets, and downtown exist today not because of happenstance. Each and every year countless property owners, developers, and governmental agencies renovate their buildings, nominate them as Landmarks, and take on the responsibility of serving as silent stewards of Seattle’s past. Historic Seattle’s Annual Preservation Awards acknowledges some of the year’s most outstanding examples of preservation achievement, but those buildings that are quietly saved in every quadrant of the city are just as deserving of recognition. While residents and visitors alike cherish the places that make Seattle SEATTLE, many of the city’s most significant resources have been saved from the wrecking ball due to the hard work and dedication of community preservation efforts. Some of these preservation success stories are highlighted here.
