First Hill Neighborhood Tour

First Hill Neighborhood Tour

Thursday, May 17, 2012

Historic Seattle, the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation, the Frye Museum, and the Sorrento Hotel are pleased to offer a guided tour of historic First Hill. The neighborhood was the location of private clubs, important religious institutions, and swank hotels. It was also the city’s premier residential enclave from the 1890s through the first decades of the 1900s—home to mayors, judges, industrialists, timber barons, and art collectors. The tour includes interiors of The Frye Museum (except May 17), St. James Cathedral, Dearborn House, Stimson-Green Mansion, Piedmont Hotel (now Tuscany Apartments), and the Sorrento Hotel, providing insights into a century of architecture and interior design, as well as a lively look at the life and times of First Hill at the turn of the 20th century.

Historic Seattle seeks significant buildings or sites, which are threatened and/or neglected, and participates in strategies to preserve them. By our charter as a public development authority, we can purchase, sell, own, develop, and invest in real estate for the purpose of preservation. Since our founding in 1974, these efforts have produced many positive results and have helped strengthen and protect the unique architectural character of Seattle.
