Setting the Stage for the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Centennial
Many city, public, and private organizations will be offering events tied to the Centennial of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in 2009. The Museum of History & Industry will showcase photographs of the exposition by the official photographer, Frank H. Nowell, along with others. It will also debut the traveling exhibition, The Arts and Crafts Movement in the Pacific Northwest. Historic Seattle, in partnership with MOHAI, the Friends of Seattle’s Olmsted Parks, the Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, and the Colonial Dames of Washington Historic Preservation Fund and is pleased to present a full weekend symposium this June consisting of five lectures that set the stage for understanding this exposition in the context of its predecessors and followers and important nationwide civic and parks movements. Symposium includes lectures and panel discussion, breakfast, lunch and refreshments, and a campus walking tour conducted by MOHAI and Seattle Architecture Foundation. MOHAI Executive Director Leonard Garfield, co-chair of the AYP Centennial Task Force, will introduce speakers and moderate panel discussion.

Symposium pass: Includes: access to all lectures, panel discussion, free admission to MOHAI’s exhibits all weekend long, boxed lunch on Saturday, light breakfast on Saturday, and refreshments on Sunday’s, campus tour (spaces limited): $60 for Historic Seattle/MOHAI Members; $70 General; $30 students
Saturday Pass: Good for Saturday ONLY, includes: access to all lectures, campus tour, admission to MOHAI’s exhibits, light breakfast and afternoon refreshments, plus boxed lunch, campus tour (spaces limited): $40 Historic Seattle/MOHAI Members; $50 General; $20 students
Sunday Pass: Good for Sunday ONLY, includes: access to all lectures, panel discussion, admission to MOHAI’s exhibits, and afternoon refreshments.
