Save the Buildings
Fund
Seattle's historic homes, schools, firehouses, libraries,
and commercial buildings are a finite resource. If we are don't
preserve the buildings we love, they will continue to disappear - until
all that remains are photographs of what once was.
Once it's gone, it's gone
Historic Seattle created the Save the Buildings Fund to enable
us to move quickly to preserve the historic buildings that
enrich our community before they are gone forever. Whether
an historic building is threatened by new development, nature
or human neglect, the Save the Buildings Fund can be used to
delay demolition, study alternatives, and find preservation
solutions. The Fund allows Historic Seattle to take immediate
action without risking the financial health of the organization.
Already, Save the Buildings Funds have assisted property
owners whose historic buildings were severely damaged by the
2001 Nisqually earthquake, helped save the Egan House, a mid-century
modernist structure that was threatened with demolition, and
helped save the 1889 Cadillac Hotel in the Pioneer Square Historic
District. Having the Fund in reserve meant that Historic Seattle
could act decisively when no else could or would.
