History of the Cadillac Hotel Exhibit

Cadillac Hotel Exhibit Panels (pdf 3.20 MB)

The purchase and rehabilitation of the Cadillac Hotel has been a very high priority at Historic Seattle since February 2001, when the Nisqually earthquake damaged it and dozens of other historic buildings throughout the region. There was wide-spread belief that the building was a lost cause. In fact the owner applied for a demolition permit immediately after the earthquake. Partnerships with the National Park Service Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and the National Trust for Historic Preservation encouraged Historic Seattle to aggressively intervene, purchase, rehabilitate and save the building.

A permanent exhibit project highlighting the history of the Cadillac Hotel is now prominently displayed within the building. The life story is told thanks to the generous contributions from 4Culture’s Heritage Special Project Grant Program and from key rehabilitation project partners: Rafn Company, Coughlin Porter Lundeen, and SMR Architects.
