In 1996 the international significance of the Klondike Gold Rush was officially recognized by Canada and the United States with the creation of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. The Seattle unit, located in the Pioneer Square Historic District, commemorates the origin for many of the stampeders who headed off to the Klondike region. The solar power project helps support awareness of the continuing importance of resource management to the energy and development future of the country.
